DESY Cryoplatform

Planned and existing experiments and R&D activities of the Quantum
Universe Cluster of Excellence rely on DESY’s cryogenic infrastructure. To
best suit the Cluster’s requirements and to optimally use its synergies,
existing infrastructures need to be adopted and improved. A central goal
is the realization of a common platform to supply cryogenic liquids
(initially at 4 K) for various experiments and R&D activities for detector
physics. The planned facility adds new multipurpose cryogenic stations to
DESY’s existing infrastructure. It will be a central building block for
realizing activities planned within the Quantum Universe Cluster of
Excellence, such as the MADMAX experiment and developing cryogenic
mirrors, as required for next-generation gravitational-wave observatories. The cryo platform is being realized in the HERA North hall and will be available for first experiments in 2022.
